How much does the SpotMini cost?

Well, Boston Dynamics has confirmed that SpotMini is still for commercial use only. Boston Dynamics does not want us to use the SpotMini at home for fun.SpotMini still requires a certification for in-home use. Also, SpotMini operation is a bit complex to handle for everyone. That is why the company still is not encouraging people to buy the SpotMini for in-home use. Though, any individual can order this robot dog. But, the customer must promise to follow the terms and user guidelines strictly.

What does SpotMini do?

Boston Dynamics says SpotMini sure can be used in diverse situations like the following cases.

  • SpotMini can be used as a “mule” to deliver supplies in the desert and remote rough hilly terrains.
  • SpotMini helps us to inspect inaccessible areas for human beings like a radioactive zone or a confined zone for a deadly virus.
  • SpotMini helps us to collect data and pics even in extreme weather conditions.

In 2019, Boston Dynamics carried out an “Early Adaptor Program”. As a part of this program, Boston Dynamics gave SpotMini in lease to a few selected research groups and companies under a few certain conditions. All of those clients submitted their experience with SpotMini (presently called Spot) to Boston Dynamics to help to carry on their research with SpotMini. Boston Dynamics integrated and edited all the clips, collected from their clients, to make the above “Video”.

Below given a list containing the “tasks” that SpotMini has already performed

SpotMini helped medical stuff to fight in COVID-19 War

SpotMini helped medical stuff to fight in COVID-19 War

In 2020 March, Boston Dynamics helped hospitals in Boston with their SpotMini, equipped with iPads and two-way radios, to communicate with COVID-19 patients from the distance. Thus doctors and health workers were able to avoid the risk of exposure to COVID-19. The experiment was pretty much successful as it decreased the rate of spreading of “corona Virus” in medical staff. Also, SpotMini proved to help check the preliminary Checkup process like measuring “body temperature”, “oxygen-saturation” level, respiratory rate, pulse rate, and many more from a distance to avoid the risk of being exposed directly.

In New Zealand, Rocos, another partner in the “Early Adaptor Program”, used SpotMini successfully in collection agricultural data collection. Believe it or not, Rocos reported that SpotMini had been very useful to herd sheep as well, no doubt a worthy competitor of the sheep-dogs in the future. Rocos also reported SpotMini got the potential to collect data in remote missions. It can even be used in rough hilly terrains without much problem in handling by the remote control from a distance. Rocos also said SpotMini even plays a positive role to balance the workload in case of a worker shortage.

Another partner company used successfully SpotMini in Singapore Park in campaigning during COVID-19. They attached a speaker with the SpotMini and programmed it to walk around the park announcing the necessity of “social distancing”. Also, SpotMini helped to deliver the exact data about the crowd size.

In 2019, Massachusetts State Police, another partner in the “Early Adaptive Program”, used SpotMini in the force. They used SpotMini in their “Bomb Squad” in detecting “Bombs” and other surveillance works.
