How to check eligibility Apple’s AirPods Pro free replacement 2022

Apple has identified a small percentage of AirPods Pro is experiencing sound issues. You may be covered under Apple’s service program if you have problems with one or both of your AirPods Pro earphones. Units manufactured before October 2020 are affected.

Here’s how to see if you are eligible for a free AirPods Pro replacement. Apple’s AirPods Pro have active noise cancellation and is among our favourite Bluetooth headphones. Although they were first released in 2019, they keep up with newer wireless earbuds, including the new AirPods 3.

Some AirPods Pro users have encountered charging issues, issues with active noise cancelling, and broken earbuds. A simple factory reset can fix most of these issues, and it takes under a minute to accomplish.

Apple notes that the AirPods Pro Charging Case isn’t included in the program, only the earphones. The program now covers affected AirPods Pro for “3 years after the first retail sale.” Previously, it covered affected AirPods Pro for 2 years.

AirPods Pros affected by this issue may exhibit the following behaviours:

  • Sounds such as crackling or static that are intensified in loud environments, during exercise or while on the phone
  • In some cases, Active Noise Cancellation fails to work as expected. This includes a loss of bass sound or an increase of background sounds such as traffic and aeroplane noise.

AirPods Pro (left, right or both) will be repaired for free by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

If my AirPods Pro are covered, how do I find out?

It is definitely covered if you bought your AirPods Pro before October 2020. If you need to replace an earbud, you can make an appointment at the Apple store.

If you bought them after October 2020, there is a good possibility that your AirPods Pro was manufactured before the cut-off date if you bought them after October 2020. You can’t check your eligibility online – you’ll need to contact Apple Support with a bit of information about your model to do so. You will find this easier if you have an iPhone to pair your AirPods Pro with.

Don’t worry if you can’t get access to this information due to the fact that you don’t have a smartphone available – you can still find your serial number physically. You can see the serial number under the lid of your charging case.

How to contact Apple’s Customer Service?

  • Go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone.
  • Select “Bluetooth” from the list.
  • You can check the AirPods Pro by tapping on the info icon to the right of the “My Devices” header. A model number, serial number, and version code for your device will be displayed here.
  • Use this information to visit Apple’s support page. Enter “AirPods Pro” under “Tell us what’s happening” in the form.
  • Click “Chat” or “Call” under the Contact header on the next page.
  • You may see a list of your known devices on the next page, including the AirPods Pro. If not, you can enter the serial number found earlier by clicking on “Enter a serial number”.

There is no specific way to communicate with Apple support. Still, you should explain the issue you’re having, mention the replacement option, and ask if they can check the serial number to see if your unit is eligible for a replacement. You may first be directed through some troubleshooting steps by the support representative.

If your AirPods Pro are eligible for repairs, an Apple expert will check them and issue you replacements if there are no other user-caused defects.

Limitations of Air Pods Pro Repair Program.

The program is helpful if you have experienced problems with your AirPods Pro, but there are some limitations to consider:

  • Recently, a bit of work was done to extend the repair program. It is now possible for users to take advantage of this program until October 2022. It is three years since the first retail sale of units with noted issues took place.
  • AirPods Pro’s standard warranty coverage does not extend to replacement buds.

Apple could extend the program again, but since it recently launched the AirPods Max and AirPods 3, and rumours are rife about a new AirPods Pro, it’s unlikely the company will prolong this program any further.
