Apple Watch Series 8: what are the features and specs?
Design and Processor
Apple Watch Users are expecting a more industrial design for the next Apple Watch series after false rumors about its design turned out to be incorrect.According to leaks, Series 8 could introduce a flat-edge Watch with 41mm and 45mm screens.
Even though the Apple Watch Series 7 redesign may not have been as dramatic as many hoped, another new Apple Watch will come in 2022. An Apple Watch Series 8 is expected in September 2022.
Before the release of the Apple Watch Series 7, several rumors suggested Apple would redesign the watch with flat edges like the iPhone 13 and iPad Pro, but that didn’t happen.
After not updating the processor for Series 7, Apple is preparing a new S8 SoC for the Apple Watch Series 8, which will bring “major updates to activity tracking” and “faster chips across the board.”
According to Bloomberg, Apple is developing a rugged version of the Apple Watch for athletes, hikers, and others who use the watch under more extreme conditions than they do every day. It will have the same functionality as a standard Apple Watch but with improved impact resistance and protection. By 2022, Apple will launch a rugged Apple Watch.
The blood pressure monitoring sensor
A key feature of the Apple Watch Series 8 would be monitoring blood pressure: According to a Wall Street Journal report from September 2021, Apple’s smartwatch is still “at the center of Apple’s health plans.”
The technology to monitor blood pressure won’t be ready until at least 2024, and a launch may be delayed to 2025. A new sensor and accompanying software will detect high blood pressure for Apple, but tests haven’t been accurate. Apple is testing blood pressure monitoring with its employees. The feature won’t provide specific readings for systolic or diastolic pressure but instead will alert Apple watch users that they may have high blood pressure that needs to be investigated further.
Blood Glucose Monitoring
Based on rumours, Apple has been working on blood glucose monitoring for years, but it is a severe health feature that is likely to require regulatory oversight. According to reports, Apple has a team of biomedical engineers working on non-invasive methods of monitoring blood glucose levels using optical sensors, which could make their way into future Apple Watch models. A feature like this would make diabetes management much easier as it wouldn’t require puncturing the skin.
Connectivity via satellite
Apple plans to add satellite connectivity to the Apple Watch in the near future, which will enable emergency texting and SOS response from the wrist. There will be satellite connectivity on the iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch later on.
Body temperature sensor
During the first quarter of 2022, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that “body temperature was on this year’s roadmap, but chatter about it has slowed down recently.” This doesn’t mean Apple abandoned its plans to bring this sensor to the iPhone, but we do have to wait for new reports to confirm the release of this feature.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also suggested that the Series 8 Apple Watch have a body temperature sensor a few days before its announcement.
New sleep tracking technology
According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is reportedly investing in new sleep tracking features for the Apple Watch Series 8, including detecting advanced sleep patterns and sleep apnea. However, Apple’s battery life will pose a challenge when it comes to expanding sleep tracking capabilities. According to Apple, it is trying to find ways to read data from sensors overnight without negatively impacting battery life.
