Apple’s iPhone 14 specs and design
Is there gonna be an iPhone 14?
Is iPhone 14 pro out?
How much will the iPhone 14 Cost?
According to an analyst, the iPhone 14 specs and designs have been finalized and are being tested. Currently, Apple is reportedly testing out the new iPhone 14.
This is according to Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities, who in a briefing note (spotted by 9to5Mac) wrote that Apple is currently conducting engineering validation tests for the iPhone 14. The EVTs run on an engineering prototype implies that the iPhone 14’s final specifications and design have now been finalized.
The recent lockdown in Shenzhen, ordered after rising COVID-19 cases, hasn’t slowed Apple’s testing progress, Pu added. The last time we heard about this process was in February when Apple allegedly produced its first iPhone 14 test units.
Furthermore, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are expected to include a new 48MP main camera, pill and punch-hole cutouts for Face ID and selfie camera sensors instead of Apple’s trademark notch, plus an updated A16 processor.
Despite the major differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, we anticipate the largest feature gap in years for the regular iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro.
iPhone 14 Pro Specifications and Design
The iPhone 14 Pro could be the phone that shakes up Apple’s iPhone range with an entirely new design from the iPhone 13 Pro. Up to now, the rumours have hinted at everything from the death of the notch to the return of Touch ID.
While the iPhone 13 Pro is arguably a good upgrade over its predecessor, it isn’t a significant one. Overall, the iPhone hasn’t advanced much since the iPhone 11 Pro.
Apple will have to step up its game for the iPhone 14 Pro in light of stiff competition from the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Google Pixel 6 Pro. It seems like Apple’s next Pro model might be doing just that, going by leaks and rumours so far. There may be some big differences between the iPhone 14 Pro and other iPhone 14 models.
Design of the iPhone 14 Pro
It is suggested that the iPhone 14 Pro will see some significant changes based on the renders shown by tipster Jon Prosser.
Renders show volume buttons similar to those on the iPhone 4. In addition, there is talk of titanium construction, which would theoretically make the iPhone 14 Pro stronger and lighter than its predecessor.
There are no changes to the flat edges of the iPhone 13 range, but opinions may be split about the rear cameras.
It appears that Prosser’s renderings show a trio of cameras flush with the back of the iPhone 14 Pro. Although that sounds nice, some rival schematics show the iPhone 14 Pro models looking remarkably similar to the iPhone 13. There will be a raised camera array on the iPhone 14 Pro, and it will be even bigger. The new phone is also expected to be 0.2mm thicker than the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The camera module is also expected to be larger. Ming-Chi Kuo, a reliable Apple analyst, explains that a 48MP camera requires a larger module.
From various iPhone 14 Pro rumours, it is also speculated that Apple will eliminate the now-infamous display notch and go for a punch-hole selfie camera instead. Display analyst Ross Young expects Apple to offer a pill-shaped cutout for Face ID in conjunction with a punch hole, so basically two cutouts.
The following is an alleged schematic from Weibo showing how the iPhone 14 Pro could look. We aren’t sure whether this would be better than the notch.
Display on the iPhone 14 Pro
A 120Hz dynamic refresh rate display was one of the biggest improvements of the iPhone 13 Pro. By using an LTPO panel, the screen could switch from 120Hz to 10Hz when a fast refresh rate was required, thus saving battery life.
According to the rumours so far, this isn’t going to change with the iPhone 13 Pro. There is the possibility of using a next-generation LTPO panel, as seen on the OnePlus 10 Pro, which could improve power efficiency.
Rumours indicate that the iPhone 14 Pro will stick with a 6.1-inch display and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will stick with a 6.7-inch display. The iPhone 14 Pro is expected to have the same screen size as the iPhone 13 Pro, according to a leak from Shadow_Leaks.
Camera specifications for the iPhone 14 Pro
It is unlikely that the iPhone 14 Pro will feature a big change in terms of cameras, as the Pro phones are expected to keep the standard trio of a main, ultrawide, and telephoto lens. That’s not a bad thing, considering Apple phones regularly appear in our list of the best camera phones.
However, there is a report that the iPhone 14 Pro will have a 48MP camera, which would be a change from the 12MP cameras Apple has been using for years. Even though Cupertino’s computational photography is some of the best, having more megapixels to work with would likely give the iPhone 14 Pro more scope when it comes to processing light and details; megapixels could be important again to Apple.
Specifications and battery life of the iPhone 14 Pro
As with every new iPhone model, it wouldn’t be hard to predict the iPhone 14 Pro will have an improved chip, although there are no solid rumours on its specs.
From the A15 Bionic we can expect an A16 Bionic chip with improved performance across the board. In that chip, the process node is expected to move to a 4nm node. An Apple-made 5G modem is also possible.
The iPhone 14 Pro is expected to have up to 1 TB of storage, but there haven’t been any solid rumours about the size.
No word yet on the size or capacity of the battery. In our battery test, in which the phone reloads the web page infinitely until it dies, the iPhone 13 Pro did 11 hours and 42 minutes reloading web pages until it died. With Apple boosting chip and phone efficiency, we’d expect the iPhone 14 Pro Max to do the same or better than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
In terms of 5G, we anticipate the iPhone 14 Pro will use a new, smaller modem chip. Due to its smaller size, it should use less energy to run and have more room for the battery. Therefore, the already-impressive battery life of the iPhone 13 can be improved even further.
iPhone 14 Pro Price
Starting at $999, the iPhone 14 Pro is likely to follow its predecessor. Although some flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S22 are now starting at $799, Apple is unlikely to cut the price of its higher-end flagship phones (especially with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max expected to remain at $699 and $799). A premium phone with carefully curated software and a trio of very impressive cameras could be justified at a price of $999.
iPhone 14 Pro: What to expect
Many of us have been waiting for the iPhone 14 Pro as the Pro models are tipped to be a real evolution of the iPhone we’ve seen over the past few years. Obviously, it won’t look much different from the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12, but we suspect it will introduce a design language and features that will set the stage for future iPhone. Now that the iPhone SE (2022) has been released, here’s what the iPhone SE tells us about the iPhone 14.
A USB-C port, Touch ID, and a bigger megapixel count for the main camera could truly shake up the iPhone experience. As a result, other smartphones hoping to make our top phones list would follow the standard set by the Nexus 6.
